Whether you are just getting started or you are a well-seasoned runner, everyone can improve their abilities. That is why today, Junkyard Training wants to share a few ways in which you can improve your running.
Even if you are not training for a marathon, working on your endurance has many benefits. You can increase your aerobic capacity by gradually increasing how far you run. Such as, if you typically run for 5 miles a day, aim for 7-10. The more you adjust your training, the easier it will be for you to chase that runner’s high.
When you have a goal, it can be easy for it to turn into an obsession. To think you must push yourself as hard as possible to reach your target. And while it is true that in order to improve you must push yourself outside of your comfort zone, it is also crucial that you do not neglect your rest. Going too hard for too long is a recipe for injury and burn out. Instead of letting things get to that point, set aside a rest day each week and take it seriously.
In order to truly improve your running, aim to become a complete athlete. Building muscle will help to improve your form and to prevent injury. With the tissues that are taxed the most by running supported by muscle, you will find that you are able to have more power and less pain behind your training. Try to dedicate a few sessions each week to strength training.
There is no doubt that running is a powerful source when it comes to blasting calories. Because of this, you may not be too concerned about what you eat, but you should. Food is more than simply calories. It provides us with energy and nutrients that can aid in brain, cardiovascular health, and more. Or, it can do the opposite by making you feel sluggish and by harming your internal health. So, be sure to pay attention to what you are fueling your body with and aim to choose nutrient dense foods.
Seeing progress from day to day can be difficult. Changes to your body are often not noticed fully until several months down the line. But do not give up! Stay positive and consistent and you will see the desired changes.
At Junkyard Training we love educating on the latest training techniques. But we also love working with clients one on one.
