Sweat Smart During Your Summer Workouts

Summer is in full swing. This is the time of year when motivation to work out is sky-high... until you step outside and feel like you've walked directly into a blow dryer. But hey, that doesn’t mean your fitness goals have to hibernate until the weather cools down again.

At Junkyard Training, we’re all about pushing limits—but not to the point where you’re overheating like a forgotten protein shake in the back of your car. So, this article breaks down how to stay safe, strong, and a little less swampy while working out this summer.

Beat the Heat: Time Your Sweat Sesh Right

Midday sun? Big nope. You’re not a lizard on a rock—you’re an athlete with goals (and a heart rate to manage).

Best bet: Workout early in the morning or after 6 PM when the sun’s gone into chill mode. If you must work out during the day, find some shade—or better yet, come grind it out inside our fan-cooled, sweat-stained paradise at Junkyard Training.

Hydrate Like a Champion

You know that bottle of water you meant to bring? Yeah, go get it. Now double it.

Warm weather = sweat city, and if you’re not replacing that lost moisture, you’re risking cramps, dizziness, and a total energy crash. And no one wants to be “that guy” who passed out during warm-ups.

Pro tip: Hydrate before, during, and after your workout. Electrolyte drinks are your sweaty BFFs, but watch the sugar bombs.

Dress for the Weather, Not a Fashion Show

Look, we all love a matching gym fit. But when it’s 90°F with a side of sunstroke, the wrong gear can turn your workout into a sauna nightmare.

Look for:

  • Lightweight, breathable fabrics
  • Moisture-wicking materials
  • Light colors (black absorbs heat, and you're not trying to be a walking charcoal briquette)

Bonus: Bring a towel. You’re gonna need it.

Listen to Your Body (Not Just Your Hype Playlist)

Push through the burn? Yes. Push through heat exhaustion? NO!

If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or like your brain is frying like bacon on asphalt—STOP! Take a break, get some water, and chill out in the shade.

Remember: There’s a difference between “beast mode” and “bad decision.”

Cool Down, Don’t Pass Out

After your final rep, take time to cool down properly. That means:

  • Stretching in the shade
  • Sipping water
  • Maybe treating yourself to a cool towel or an ice-cold protein shake (vanilla bean bliss, anyone?)

You’ve earned it. Don’t just flop onto the ground like a sunbaked noodle.
